If you’re base-camped anywhere near Plymouth like we are, you know the struggle: the Minnesota weather is currently a chaotic mess. One minute it’s shorts weather, and the next I’m stuffy, tired, and questioning every life choice that led me to living in a state that “glitches” every March. But even a head cold can’t stop the search for the West Metro’s best haunts.
This week, we took on two heavyweight contenders in the Rogers/Rockford corridor: The Block Food + Drink and Billy’s Rockford Bar. It’s a classic battle of Modern Craft versus Classic Soul. We didn’t choose a winner, because we’re DINKs and we have the time (and the lack of soccer practice) to visit both. 🥂
Here is our unfiltered take on these two local legends.
The Contemporary Craft: The Block (Rogers, MN)
Walking up to The Block in Rogers, you immediately get that modern, intentional vibe. The dark grey siding juxtaposed with the warm wood accents says “elevated comfort.” You can tell this place is designed with great attention to detail.

Inside, it’s a sleek haven of black accents and distinctive green tiled walls that just screams “Instagram-ready.” The layout is high-energy, with multi-screen TVs making it a great spot to catch a game without the noise overriding the conversation.

The Fabulous Campbell’s Verdict: This is that definitive “Craft & Crew” experience—it’s polished and high-quality without being stuffy. We’re already planning to return specifically for that Royale with Cheese and to test their patio when the “Real Spring” finally hits. If you want a space designed for long afternoons, craft cocktails (their mocktail list is surprisingly creative), and zero regrets, The Block is your move.
The Old-School Heart: Billy’s Rockford Bar (Rockford, MN)
If The Block is the modern aesthetic, Billy’s Rockford Bar is the classic Minnesota heart. Pulling up, you feel that welcoming, unassuming soul. This is a place where actual community happens, and where the “local bar” vibe is alive and well.
Walking in, the vibe shifts to something deeply authentic. The bar top is worn in the best way, the glassware is lined up and ready, and the tap handles—a good selection that would make a brewery owner weep with joy—are a promise of a cold beer. It has that cozy, established character that we are always hunting for.

We shifted gears from our usual fare and went straight for the heart of the matter: a classic bar burger. And let me tell you, this simple, quintessential burger (which was so good I started eating it before the camera was even ready) served on a tray of crinkle-cut fries is the perfect unpretentious weekend fuel. It doesn’t scream “craft,” it just says “correct.”

The Fabulous Campbell’s Verdict: This is a destination for when you are craving old-school character and straightforward, satisfying food. It’s the kind of place where you can lose track of time over good conversation and a very impressive tap list.
The “Let Them” Summary
We talk a lot about our “Let Them” philosophy—letting go of pretense and focusing on what actually brings us joy. Our West Metro scouting trip proved that joy exists in both modern polish and old-school comfort.
- Head to The Block if you want sleek design, elevated classics (that Royale with Cheese!), and a high-energy vibe.
- Head to Billy’s Rockford Bar if you want many tap selections, a simple, killer burger, and that authentic, unpretentious character.
Both are fabulous examples of the local businesses that make the West Metro great. Support local, get out there, and find your own hidden gem!
