The Fabulous Campbell’s Guide to Meat Raffle Etiquette (For People Who Actually Behave)

SteveO's Happy Hour + Meat Raffle

If you’ve followed us to SteveO’s in Crystal, you know we aren’t there for the scenery—mostly because there isn’t any. We’re there for the three pillars of suburban survival: cold drinks, no kids, and the chance to win a five-pound roast while “Man! I Feel Like a Woman” plays on the jukebox.

But look, there’s a right way and a wrong way to play the meat game. Don’t be the amateur who ruins the vibe for the serious day drinkers. Follow these rules, or go back to the other bars with the juice-box crowd.

1. The “Show Up Early” Mandate

If you walk in five minutes before the draw, don’t expect the regulars to move their coats for you. At SteveO’s, the meat starts flying at 6:00 PM on Tuesdays and 5:00 PM on Wednesdays and Saturdays. Get there at least 45 minutes early. This gives you time to order the wings—which are legit—and claim a stool near the dart boards before the “pro” raffle hunters arrive.

2. Respect the “No-Vaping” Sanctuary

We love SteveO’s because it feels like a time capsule. The wood paneling is classic, and the “No Smoking/No Vaping” sign is strictly enforced. Do not be the person trying to sneak a puff of “Cotton Candy” flavored mist in a room full of people trying to smell their Surly Furious and upcoming steak tips.

3. Don’t Be a “Number-Checker” Pest

The staff at SteveO’s is efficient and friendly, but they aren’t your personal concierge. If they call “22” don’t yell, “Wait, what was the number?” Pay attention. We’re Gen X; we grew up without “undo” buttons. If you miss your number because you were too busy choosing a heavy metal song on the jukebox, that’s on you. They will repeat the number anyway. This isn’t bingo.

4. The “Vegetarian” Clause

If you don’t eat meat, why are you here? Okay, fine, the pizza is excellent, so we’ll allow it. But if you win the Saturday 5:00 PM meat raffle and then complain that you “don’t do pork chops,” you are required by law to hand that tray to the nearest person wearing a flannel shirt. No whining. It’s a bar, not a co-op.

5. The Winner’s Tax

In the world of The Fabulous Campbell’s, if you win the big prize, you don’t just hoard your winnings like a squirrel. You celebrate. Buy a round for your partner. It’s good karma, and in a windowless bar where the jukebox range spans from Neil Diamond to Latin hits, karma is the only thing keeping the universe in balance.
