Is there anything better than sitting around a campfire?
The flames building and the sparks flying to the heavens. Looking up to thousands of stars on a warm late spring evening. There is a hypnotic pull to a fire like that. It strips away the urge to check a phone or think about tomorrow. You’re just entirely present, trapped in the rhythm of the logs settling and the low, steady chorus of frogs singing off in the distance. There’s just something about sitting around a fire with absolutely nothing else to do.
But for us, this particular fire meant a little bit more.
Before we could sit back and watch those sparks fly, we had to build our own peaceful sanctuary. We shaped this space with our own hands—hauling the river rock, leveling the ground, and setting the fire pit. It’s funny how a patch of earth changes meaning once you’ve spent an afternoon working it. It stops being just a campsite and starts being a home.
When dusk finally settled on this beautiful night, it was time for the real test.
If you’ve spent any time around a traditional campfire, you know the dance. The wind shifts, the smoke chases you around your chair, and you spend half the night wiping your eyes. But this design changes the game. The fire caught almost instantly, drawing air down and feeding the flames from underneath. The heat it throws off is intense and direct, but the smoke? Barely a whisper.
Looking past the glowing embers, you see the camper standing watch in the twilight, the ground lights cutting a warm, inviting path through the dark.
It reminds you why you do it. For the love of the outdoors, and each other.
